Homo who? #2

Nangangati na ang kamay ko i-blog ang mga nangyari sa akin noong nakaraang linggo pero hindi ko magawa dahil hindo ko pa ito tapos, kaya...

Point 2: It is immoral because it is against the Word of God.
Again, for this statement to be logically true, its assumptions need to be true. Those assumptions are:
1. If it is against the word of God, it is immoral.
2. Homosexuality is against the Word of God.
3.*optional*The Concept of God.
All of these assumptions are debatable.

For #1 and #3: This is the major concept of the Divine Law Theory of Ethics. Again, a theory with many problems. What is the Word of God? Is there a God? How can we be certain that only the Word of God is moral? If I were an atheist, would that make me immoral? If I were a follower of , then am I immoral? What is there is no God? If there is a God, is this God really omniscient and omnipotent and knows what moral is? There is a simple aswer to these questions: Faith. But, faith doesn't really work for some people. I believe most of the teachings of God are moral but I follow a different system of Ethics(read:Kantian Ethics).

Okay let us assume 1 and 3 are true statements then what about
#2: I do not read the Bible. I find it too heavy. I did read the part about Sodom and Gomorrah though. I was not really impressed with what I read. Most people say it was directly stated. Others said implied. The debate continues. The same passages used to prove homosexuality's immorality can be used to prove its morality. In any case, most passages attack the sexual act rather than the lifestyle. Again, faith comes into play.

Side thingies: If a person is extremely good, so good that that person could be made into a saint, but is gay(lifestyle and sex). What happens to him?
Oh yeah, a problem with this belief is most of the believers are selfish. They only follow because of the promise of reward ie Heaven.
If God made people homosexual, why would he put them to such a horrible test that will last throughout that person's life? Does this mean that that person who passes(represses sexual desires) and lives a "good" life will be honored above all others? The Bible isn't really clear on that one as far as I know.

Conclusion: Weak argument. Not conclusive. Needs to be "studied" more. Role of faith would come into play. My discussion is horribly lacking. Google it if you want more.

Holy Week

Pagpasensyahan po. Wala talaga ako ginagawang kahit ano pero nahihirapan ako magsulat.
Nahihirapan nga rin ako mag-basa eh. At oras nga pala ngayon ng pagtanaw muli sa mga nakaraang taon at pag-isipan ang mga pagbabagong dapat gawin sa ating buhay.

Mabenta ngayon ang "Gospel of Judas." Halata namang may "mali" sa gospel na iyon kasi hindi nagkakatugma-tugma ang mga alam natin. Bukod pa doon ginagawa nitong masama si Jesus. Bakit naman niya uutusan si Judas na pagtaksilan siya? Napaka-illogical. Pero masaya ring pag-isipan ang mga bagay na ito. =)

Hirap mag-isip. Ano ba itong nakasulat sa baba! Sana lang matino ang pagdaloy ng mga ideya. Mabuti naman kahit papaano kasi wala naman atang "wrong grammar." Naiungkat na rin naman natin ang "wrong grammar," nakakabaliw ang friendster. Sumasakit ang ulo ko sa kakabasa ng mga pinaglalagay ng mga tao doon. Nagsalita ang perpekto noh? Ayos lang naman sa akin ang minsanang mali, pero kapag sunod-sunod na... Ano na kaya ang nangyari sa term paper ko? toot ang aming prof sa pe, 1.5 lang ako. Gusto ko sana kasi ng 1.25. Tama lang siguro sa akin iyon kasi puro mali ang galaw ko sa final presentation, dinaan lang sa ngiti para maisalba ang sarili mula sa kahihiyan.

Homo who? #1

The homosexual lifestyle has many critics. The debate on its morality rages on and on and on and on. Here in the Philippines homosexuals are tolerated by many but still hated by some. The anti-homosexuality stance of the religious groups is still very influential, heck no lawcould be made without the blessing of the religious groups. Though tolerated, no parent would want one. Stereotyping is also very prominent.

Most people who oppose homosexuality oppose it because they believe it is wrong and immoral. They say it is so because it is unnatural, againsts the laws of God, it is like this and like that. Some people oppose because they find the idea disgusting. I am not here to finally put an end to the loooong debate. I just want to counter some points made by those people.

Point #1: It is immoral because it is unnatural.
There are two obvious assumptions in this statement. Number 1, if a thing is unnatural then that is immoral. Number 2, homosexuality is unnatural. If these statements are true then we have no problem but that is not that the case.

For number 1: This statement is a belief of the followers of the Natural Law theory of ethics. Now this theory has many problems. One is the lack of definition for nature/natural. Another, it is guilty of the is-ought gap. In other words, the theory assumes that what is the case need to be the case, which is wrong.
Examples of statements guilty of this:
a) "There is nothing wrong being selfish. Everybody is selfish."
b) "Homosexuality (or cloning, etc.) is wrong because it is unnatural."

For number 2: Again, the lack of definition of nature is a weakness of this argument. But let us assume that number 1 is true. Number 2 would offer some problems. Not enough proof exist to state that homosexuality is unnatural(nor are there enough proof saying that it is natural). But there are more evidence saying it is "natural" ie observed in nature. The belief that it is a psychological disease or disorder has long been scrapped though it was found out that the brain of homosexual men is different to the brain of hetero ones though further studies need to be conducted. It was also found out that cases of purely homosexual or heterosexual preferences are very rare. Some genetic evidence also exist. Heck, they even saw male animals doing it together.

Conclusion on point#1: Illogical. Even if the natural law theory, which is its basis, is true, homosexuality might be natural therefore moral.

Dapat gumagawa ako ngayon ng matitinong mga bagay. Mga bagay na ikatutuwa ko at ng mga nakapaligid sa akin. Pero ano ginagawa ko ngayon? Naghahabol ng tulog, nanonood ng tv, internet ng internet... walang kwenta ang mga pinag-gagagawa ko.

Hindi raw kami magiging true friends ni 8 pero pwede kami maging maging lovers(ang kadiri pala ng tunong nito). Pwede ko rin maging ka-labi-dabs si 7. Maaari ko maging true friends ang lahat pwere na nga kay 8. Angel ruler ko si Raphael o si Gabriel at demon ruler si Belzeebub o si Satan. Sinubukan ko ito sa ilang tao, lumabas na 2 rin sila, sayang hindi 7 o 8. Sa totoo lang, hindi ako gaano naniniwala sa bagay na ito dahil parang maaaring gamitin ang iba pang numero para sa akin. Maaari ngang may mga kayang manghula diyan pero hindi na nila kailangan pa ng mga numero, mga bituin o mga baraha.

I have this really irrational fear. I know it is stupid. I know I shouldn't fear it. I shouldn't even be thinking about it. It doesn't mean that I'll lose my identity if it happens. I just... *breathes*

I fear I will forget my student number.

In an alternate scenario, I have already forgotten my student number and all the student numbers I have been putting in those attendance sheets and forms we need to fill out all the time were wrong. Then this would cause a series of catastrophic events that will eventually lead to my expulsion.
